Transition of NDT Skills from Oil & Gas Sector to Nuclear or Aerospace

First published December 12, 2015

It makes sense to be able to re-deploy skilled NDT practitioners from a declining sector to a rapidly emerging one - nuclear energy (especially in the UK). Or, indeed, to one that still has a large demand - aerospace.

Are there any short courses that would make oil and gas NDT specialists, more attractive to employers operating in aerospace and nuclear?

I recognise the 'experience' element required by certification in those sectors; what I'm looking for is something to get their foot in the door. Further in-house training and experience gained whilst employed, will enable that certification to be achieved.

Could anybody suggest relevant courses?

Would they be valuable to prospective nuclear or aerospace employers?

Course examples: nuclear site safety; aircraft composites.
