Latest news and updates - June 2021

A warm welcome to our June Newsletter.

This month, we at NDT Resources would like to show our support for upcoming Armed Forces Day on 26th June 2021, by championing those ex-Service men and women who have skilfully transitioned into the world of commercial NDT.

Enjoy reading, and remember we are experts in NDT recruitment, so if you want to let someone else to take the load of finding new NDT staff, do contact our Technical Director, Paul Morgan, for a confidential no obligation chat on +44 (0)1793 200169. Additionally, I would love to hear your comments about anything within this edition or suggestions for future inclusion. Please send them to: paul@ndtresources.co.uk

As you may know, our Technical Director Paul began his NDT journey whilst serving in the RAF, and was therefore fortunate enough to receive intensive, world-beating training and hands-on experience in the aerospace and aviation field. In this newsletter, we would like to highlight some of the integral skills and disciplines possessed by Armed Forces personnel, and pose the question…

Why employ a Service leaver for your NDT role?

Because... “Second best is never good enough.”

  • A career in the military promotes a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Service men and women thrive under pressure and are used to delivering against tight deadlines.
  • They will exemplify flexibility, loyalty, self-discipline, reliability, a strong sense of duty and commitment.
  • They will use their initiative and articulately communicate their position.
  • They will be self-motivated and take great pride in their work, putting health and safety, security awareness and best practice at the forefront.

As I'm sure you'll agree, these are all essential attributes for a professional NDT Technician.

Paul's past boss, WO Geoffrey Tipler, talks about this in the following extract taken from an online paper, ‘Delivery of NDT in the UK Military'.

'Due to the unsupervised nature and the fundamental importance of NDT tasking, the individual is the most important link in the application of any NDT procedure. Therefore, only SNCO [Sergeant and above] technicians of the highest calibre are selected for training by means of a written exam and an intensive interview. The technician must be able to exhibit a high degree of personal integrity; be resourceful and imaginative; have a substantial engineering background; be decisive and precise; and be able to express himself competently, both orally and in writing. Following the 10-week technicians' course, the technician must then complete a minimum of 6 months programmed and supervised 'On-the-job' probation, to demonstrate his competence in all disciplines, before he can be authorised to work unsupervised by the award of a full NDT certificate as a 'Category A' technician. Before being considered suitable for employment at the NDT Sqn HQ a minimum of 3 years team experience is required.'

In honour of Armed Forces Day 2021, NDT resources would like to thank all our dedicated Armed Forces and ex- Armed Forces personnel for their service, and we pride ourselves in continuing to champion their unique skills and expertise within our role as NDT recruitment specialists.
