Job description

I'm looking for a Project Engineer for the start-up of a mega plant in Danville VA. This plant will service the Electric Vehicle (EV) market. You should, ideally, have plant start-up experience.

They need a Project Engineer who will be responsible for managing and overseeing various facilities and construction projects from conception to completion.

Expertise required

Investments and Capex (Capital Expenditures)

Propose annual investments in capital expenditures (capex) for the site aiming at expanding and /or maintaining and improving facilities and productivity; capacity; safety and ESH standards and ensures their execution within assigned time and budget resources.

Facilities management and procurement

Develop plan and manage methods to ensure availability on site of all critical equipment and facilities to guarantee continuity and reduce the risk of manufacturing downtime. Establish standards and promote standardization plans. Keep cost exposure of the facilities services and parts at the lowest, qualify new and alternative sources and suppliers, Supervise activities of facilities optimization and usage. Supervise plant engineering and maintenance activities.

Environment, Health and Safety (ES&H)

Actively cooperates with the EH&S manager for the compliance of company rules and government regulations. Ensure correct execution of projects and improvements required to comply with safety standards. Ensure safety culture is constantly spread specifically within the engineering maintenance department and contributes to maintain a TRR below 3.0.

Training of Engineers and Technicians

The high level of quality of products, systems, services and cost efficiency requires skilled, trained, competent and well managed employees. This role will develop, promote, integrate, keeping and motivate talents, avoiding unwanted people turnover in Engineering and Maintenance is a key requirement and co-responsibility of this role.

Work plans

Actively participate and propose to upper management annual workplans that include, but not limited to: capex projects, continuous improvements projects, maintenance and safety compliance projects.

Job requirements

BS degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
In-depth knowledge and 7+ years in facilities and construction project management.
Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
Project management software expertise, including scheduling and budgeting tools.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
LEAN and continuous improvement systems (TPM certification; 5S; six sigma)
Experience of drawing, blueprints and CAD Microsoft office, Procore or PlanGrid.
Knowledge of engineering standards (ASME, ANSI, NFPA, ISO, IEC, OSHA).
Certification in project management (PMP, LEED AP, CCM, etc.)
Experience with sustainable design and energy-efficient systems.
Knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
Travel domestically and occasionally internationally

Job responsibilities

Ensure safety is paramount during all phases of the projects.
Manage and coordinate facilities and construction projects, including planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
Collaborate with stakeholders, facilities management, operations, and maintenance teams.
Conduct site visits, monitor project progress, identify issues, implement corrective actions.
Work with external contractors, vendors, consultants to ensure deliverables meet requirements.
Develop and manage project documentation, contracts, RFIs, change orders, punch lists.
Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical guidance and support to project team members.
Identify, mitigate project risks, ensure minimal impact on timelines and budgets.
Develop maintain relationships with stakeholders, project sponsors, vendors, community leaders.
